Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and the team behind Grainlock ("we", "us") for your use of the Grainlock app for iPhone ("Grainlock", "the app"). By downloading or using Grainlock you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.
1. Apple's standard terms apply too
Grainlock is licensed, not sold, to you through the App Store under Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement (the "Standard EULA"). The Standard EULA is part of these terms. If these terms and the Standard EULA conflict, the Standard EULA wins, except where these terms give you more rights.
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for Grainlock or its content, and has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for it. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.
2. What Grainlock is
Grainlock is a personal tool for the adult owner of an iPhone. You choose apps, set times when they lock, and unlock them by reading back a commitment you wrote yourself. Grainlock is self-imposed: it is not a parental control, monitoring or supervision product, and it must not be used to restrict or watch another person's device.
Grainlock is not medical, psychological or therapeutic treatment, and makes no promise that it will change your habits. If you are struggling with compulsive device use or your mental health, please talk to a qualified professional.
3. Screen Time and how locking works
Locking depends on Apple's Screen Time frameworks and your iPhone's settings. It can stop working or behave differently if you withdraw Screen Time access, change device settings, update iOS, or if Apple changes those frameworks. Grainlock is a friction tool, not a security product, and you can always turn it off. Do not rely on it to block access to anything you must be able to reach, and never to block emergency or safety services.
4. Subscriptions, trials and billing
- Grainlock requires a paid subscription. Plans and prices are shown in the app before you buy, in your local currency.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID when you confirm the purchase, or when a free trial ends.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and length unless you turn off auto-renew at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple ID is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- Free trials: if a free trial is offered and you are eligible, you are charged when it ends unless you cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. Eligibility is decided by Apple; the app shows no trial if you are not eligible.
- Cancel or manage any time in iOS Settings, then your name, then Subscriptions. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep access until the end of the period you paid for.
- Refunds are handled by Apple under its policies. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves.
- If a price changes, Apple will notify you and, where the law requires, ask for your consent before the new price applies.
5. Your content
Your Grains (the commitments you write in the app), schedule and history are stored only on your iPhone. They belong to you. We do not receive or back them up, so if you delete the app or lose your device, they may be lost. See the Privacy Policy for details.
6. Acceptable use
You agree not to use Grainlock on a device you do not own or control, to restrict or monitor someone else, to break the law, or to copy, modify, reverse engineer or resell the app except as the law expressly allows.
7. Our rights
We own Grainlock, including its design, text, graphics and code. These terms give you a personal, non-transferable right to use the app as described here and in the Standard EULA, and no other right.
8. Changes and availability
We may update, change or discontinue features of Grainlock. We may update these terms; the effective date above shows the current version, and significant changes will be announced in the app. Continuing to use Grainlock after a change means you accept the updated terms.
9. Disclaimer
To the extent the law allows, Grainlock is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise that the app will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that locks will always apply at the exact time set. If Grainlock fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any. To the maximum extent the law allows, Apple has no other warranty obligation for the app.
10. Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost profits or missed opportunities, arising from your use of or inability to use Grainlock. Our total liability for any claim relating to Grainlock is limited to the amount you paid for Grainlock in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under the law of your country, and consumers keep all rights that local consumer law gives them.
11. Termination
You can stop using Grainlock at any time by deleting it and cancelling your subscription. We may end your right to use Grainlock if you break these terms. Sections 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 survive termination.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the country where you live. You may bring any claim relating to Grainlock in the courts there, and you keep all the protection that its mandatory consumer laws give you.
